Newbie: Women’s Surf Team Youngster Tyler Wright Grabs 2011 ASP World Tour Rookie of the Year Honor

She may be the “newbie” on the block. But Tyler Wright rips with the best of them.

Replica Oakley Sunglasses 17-year-old Women’s Surf Team standout charged into the ranks of the elite by claiming the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour Rookie of the Year Award after finishing the season in fourth place in the overall standings.

During her first official year on the World Tour, the Aussie grabbed the prestigious honor after making her presence known in past stops these past few years: The Beachley Classic in 2008 and the O’Neill Women’s World Cup in 2010. And it’s no surprise. Her talent is undeniable.

Tyler’s impact on the Tour was felt from the very get-go. With amazing consistency and massive skill in virtually and condition she faced, went head-to-head with the World’s best and more than held her own.

“Competing against the top girls in the world like Steph (Gilmore), Carissa (Moore) and Sally (Fitzgibbons), on a full time basis really inspired my surfing and making the final in the first event of the year was definitely a highlight for me,” Tyler said. “It’s also been pretty cool having my own pass and not being someone’s plus one anymore.”

Smashing into contention first by her Finals appearance at Roxy Pro Gold Coast – followed by a strong quarter-finals performance at Rip Curl Women’s Pro Bells Beach, it was apparent from the very beginning that the newcomer came into the scene with the intention to challenge for the top.

Look out for her next year as she continues to progress and develop into an even more formidable force to be reckoned with!
